Text Objectives
Preparation
Read through the TEXT module of Digital Media Basics and complete all tasks outlined there including the quiz at the end.
Assignments
Level 1 students will create a document that might be used in an educational context such as a concert program, parent newsletter, handout, or promotional materials. Another possible idea is a document with three, one-paragraph biographies of famous composers from different centuries. Use font choices to represent different aspects of the composer and his work. Please make use of diacritical markings. Perhaps the ideal level 1 project is a concert program that features composers and works from many nations. It might include a German work that uses an umlaut (Schütz) or a Spanish piece that features an enyay (mañana). Use Microsoft Word to create the document then print to PDF. Eventually you will upload it to your web space.
Level 2 students will download and install a new display font, a body text font, and a music symbols font (TypeMyMusic) and then create a detailed music worksheet combining text with musical examples generated using your inline music font. Find free fonts in many categories at Font Squirrel. Use Microsoft Word to create the document then print to PDF. Eventually you will upload it to your web space.
